GEZ Rail Solutions has completed the project in Slovenia with training of maintenance personnel
GEZ Rail Solutions was commissioned by the Slovenian state railway SŽ to develop a gateway for their passenger coaches which automatically converts the UIC signals for “close door” and “block door”. The background to this is that the door close and door block commands are handled differently on the UIC lines in the European countries. In Italy, Switzerland and Austria in particular, either pulse or continuous signals are given on UIC lines 14 and 15. The gateway developed by GEZ Rail Solutions automatically recognizes whether a Trenitalia, SBB or ÖBB locomotive is leading based on the commands received and implements the door control commands accordingly so that the boarding doors can also be closed and blocked side-selectively.
The particular challenge for GEZ Rail Solutions was to project into existing door control systems from the 70s, 80s and 90s. The order volume included engineering, initial installation on one passenger coach each of the Beelm, ABeelmt and WRImt types and the associated commissioning. Further modifications were carried out by SŽ employees at the Ptuj maintenance plant. To test the entire system, GEZ Rail Solutions developed a testing device that can simulate the UIC commands of an ÖBB, SBB and Trenitalia locomotive. This allowed the converted passenger coach to be tested in advance so that the acceptance runs could be successfully carried out with the actual locomotive.
