GEZ is once again supporting the FH Aachen team with its CARLA at the European Railway Challenge

The European Railway Challenge took place from May 31 to June 2 in Bad Schussenried. The venue was chosen because of the 10.25″ track gauge, which is unusual for park railroads in Europe. This ensures a high degree of compatibility with the IMechE Railway Challenge.
Teams from Poznan (TU), Nuremberg (TH) and Aachen (FH) Karlsruhe competed in various categories (traction, brakes, reliability, comfort, etc.).
The overall results are as follows:

  • Winner: PUTrain with 1566 points and individual victories in Design, Auto-Stop, Energy Recovery and Ride Comfort Challenge.
  • Second place: FH2Rail with 876 points and individual wins in Innovation, Business Case and Maintainability Challenges.
  • Third place: Team EAGLE with 691 points and an individual victory in the Traction Challenge.
  • Entry Level Award for Loc.KA.engineering with 387 points and a victory in the Technical Poster Challenge.

Unfortunately, the weather let the many highly motivated young and somewhat older participants and supporters down a little. The entire week was characterized by constant rain, and the students’ hoped-for sunny campsite increasingly turned into a mud bath during the week.
However, the teams managed to help each other and keep spirits high.
Another challenge is planned for next year. This competition for young railroad enthusiasts requires participating teams and constant funding from sponsors. Information on both can be found at https://railwaychallenge.eu.
