Driver Access Systems for the ICE-L

Gladbeck – April 2026

GEZ Rail Solutions is supplying driver access systems for the new ICE-L operated by DB Fernverkehr AG. Following the commissioning of the first lot, the second lot was also called off from the Spanish train manufacturer at the end of last year.

The system enables direct access from track level into the locomotive cab (Class 105). A pneumatically extendable step meets the requirements of DIN 5566 and DGUV Regulation 70 and is integrated into the vehicle control system as a safety-critical component.   All locomotives are scheduled to be equipped by 2028.

In total, around 60 ICE-L trainsets are currently on order, with additional options considered likely. The project also strengthens the industrial location of Gladbeck and highlights GEZ RS’s expertise in safety-critical and innovative system solutions.
