The Frankfurt transport company (VGF) is planning to increase the operating voltage in the streetcar network in the medium term from the current DC 600V to DC 750V in the future. While the newer streetcar vehicles have already been procured with a view to the higher operating voltage and specified accordingly, part of the Frankfurt vehicle fleet, in particular historic vehicles and work vehicles, is only designed for operation with DC 600V.

We are upgrading this fleet for this purpose. For this purpose, a converter is installed in each vehicle to reduce the voltage and thus protect the vehicles from excessive voltage. The advantage of installing a buck converter is that the current vehicle concept and equipment can be retained. This means that the handling, operation and function of the vehicle are also retained.

The first converted vehicle is the K-car also called Ebbelwei-Express.
