In the downlink, the signal is picked up by the base station via an external antenna located on the train roof and forwarded to the intrain repeater inside the train, which amplifies the signal.<br \/>\nThe amplified signal is usually emitted via a slotted cable mounted in the carriage ceiling (e.g. in Deutsche Bahn ICE carriages).<br \/>\nThe same happens in the opposite direction (= uplink).
